Part 5: Singer Vehicle Design

Auto Zürich 2024 will feature an even larger portfolio of brands and exhibitors than last year. We will be introducing those who will be represented in the halls of Messe Zürich for the first time this year individually here in the coming weeks.

Like all of humanity's great ideas—the bicycle, powered flight, Instagram—the achievements of Los Angeles-based Singer Vehicle Design are simple in concept: the meticulous restoration and redesign of the Porsche 911 in collaboration with its owners.

While automobiles can be saved from mechanical ruin through the investment of money, effort, art, craft and love, Singer's work is so detailed and obsessive, the technique so thorough and holistic, and the end product so final, that the term "restoration" hardly describes Singer's execution of his services. If these cars are restorations, then the haunting Hasselblad image of this planet from Apollo 17 - the first to capture it in its entirety and contextualize it as the delicate blue, green and white marble of life in a cold, silent infinity - is just a photograph.

It all started 15 years ago, initiated by a man who was convinced he was doing the right thing. "For me, the idea was obvious, and I'm someone who is never sure," says Rob Dickinson, British native and driving force behind Singer, cousin of Iron Maiden frontman Bruce and a musician himself. After 10 years as lead singer of The Catherine Wheel, Rob moved to Los Angeles, California and restored his own classic Porsche 911. Using his car as a daily driver, Rob found that people often stopped him to ask if they could buy it. This is where the idea of ​​offering personalized restoration services was born.

What emerges through Singer Vehicle Design 's services is an exploration and collaboration with owners to pursue their personal vision for the ultimate Porsche 911 through a variety of approaches. That these masterpieces are now homologated and available for the Swiss market is thanks to SIC Carage AG in Adligenswil.  

SIC Carage AG, which also successfully handles the distribution of Koenigsegg, will be presenting vehicles that have been reinterpreted with Singer's restoration service at Auto Zürich and will be offering a first glimpse of Singer's Classic Turbo services applied to the 964-era Porsche 911. Anyone interested should definitely visit the SIC Carage stand at Auto Zürich in Hall 6.
